Disabled Holidays in Cumbria
Enabling families with a disabled person to holiday at Mitchelland Farm, we try to go that extra mile to ensure your specialist holiday needs are met. Wildlife and farm animals can be enjoyed from the comfort of your self-catering accommodation situated within the Lake District National Park.
We are now celebrating 20 years of providing ‘Accessible Holidays for All’ allowing guests with disabilities as well as active guests to enjoy the peace and tranquility on our small working farm, 3 miles from Bowness-on-Windermere. Some come to watch the lambing, some the wildlife and others because of the dark night sky. We now have a couple of mountain bikes for our guests to borrow (no charge) great for active guests to use up our fell or round the green lanes. We are not ready to retire but have plan to provide for more severe disabled needs, including ceiling hoist. If you want more details or to support our planning application please contact Jane or Stuart.
The two authentic Norwegian style Eco Log Cottages with grass and wild flower roofs (built for 2008) are cosy and warm in winter and cool in summer. The spacious luxury self-catering cottages sleep four. Each has a bathroom and wet-room that is wheelchair friendly. To make your holiday easier we now have a Hi-Lo single (profile) bed in each cottage. As well as these beds being able to give a higher height to help the carer, they also adjust to any lower level to make getting in and out of bed easy and are adjustable to raise up the head and feet/knees area (good for reading in bed).
